To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer when he expects to receive a report from the Retail Prices Index Advisory Committee.

Mr. Lamont

I have today received a report from the Retail Prices Index Advisory Committee. It makes recommendations on the treatment in the RPI of council tax and holidays. The full report is being published this afternoon as Cm 2142 and copies are available in the Vote Office.

In due course I will announce my response on the recommendations. The committee has not yet concluded its consideration of the treatment of owner-occupiers' housing costs and new cars.
