HL Deb 21 January 1993 vol 541 cc81-2WA
Lord Harris of Greenwich

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What form of inquiry they propose to institute following the case of Regina v Moon at York Crown Court, in which a remand prisoner was said to have been grossly ill-treated while in custody; and whether a report on the circumstances of this case will be placed in the Library of the House.

The Minister of State, Home Office (Earl Ferrers)

Humberside Police are investigating allegations said to have been made about the treatment of a prisoner whilst remanded in custody in order to determine whether or not a criminal offence has been committed. Operational matters are the responsibility of the chief officer of the force concerned. It would he inappropriate for me to comment while an investigation is continuing.
