§ Mr. EggarMy right hon. Friend has exercised the powers under section 34 of the Electricity Act 1989 to direct National Power and PowerGen to hold stocks of coal at power stations against interruptions in coal supplies. In determining the appropriate level of stocks, my right hon. Friend takes into account such matters as the diversity of fuels available for generation and the possible threat to supplies which may arise from one or a combination of factors.
§ Mr. SproatTo ask the President of the Board of Trade what information he has on the total level and value of coal stocks held at power stations.
§ Mr. EggarCoal stocks at power stations at 3 January 1993 totalled 31.5 million tonnes. Valuation of coal stocks at power stations is a matter for the generating company concerned.
