That responsibility, extended to the established universities, now rests with the Higher Education Funding Council for England which plans shortly to issue a circular on its approach to the assessment of teaching quality.

For the first time, in respect of 1991–92, all PCFC institutions will be completing a finance return. This will indicate the public funds received from the council and from other public sources. Results from this survey will be available during the next three months and will be published this summer.
