HC Deb 18 January 1993 vol 217 c4W
36. Mr. Bennett

To ask the Attorney-General what comments he made on the right to silence in his evidence to the Royal Commission on Criminal Justice.

The Attorney-General

I discussed this issue with the Royal Commission at a meeting when they sought my views on a range of issues. My personal thoughts on the ability of the court to draw inferences from silence were set out in my speech last October to the Howard League for Penal Reform, a copy of which I have placed in the Library of the House.
