HC Deb 18 January 1993 vol 217 cc27-8W
Mr. Win Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Education what assessment he has made of the effectiveness of records of achievement in giving due weight to a wide range of pupil achievements and personal qualities.

Mr. Forth

Records of achievement are a valuable means of recording and reporting pupils' achievements. The national record of achievement is an effective summary for school-leavers to take forward to further education and working life. Recent evaluation has shown that take up of the NRA among schools has been high. New regulations governing reports on pupils' achievements require schools to use the format as part of the NRA to provide a specified minimum of information for school-leavers. Copies of the regulations and the explanatory circular have been placed in the Library.
