HC Deb 18 January 1993 vol 217 c51W
Mr. Win Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what steps he has taken to develop a post-school education strategy aimed at promoting socially responsible parenthood.

Mr. Gwilym Jones

The Welsh Office is funding training and initial resource material costs to support district health authorities' introduction of the child development programme in Wales—a parent support programme of targeted health visiting which encourages parenting skills in all areas of early child development. So far the programme has been introduced by Pembrokeshire, South Glamorgan, West Glamorgan, Powys and Gwynedd health authorities.

In addition, the Health Promotion Authority for Wales' "Health for All in Wales" strategy defines the major health promotional challenges facing Wales. Parenting is identified as one of the areas to be developed in pursuit of this strategy.
