To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will estimate the current average radon level in United Kingdom houses, expressed in becquerels per cubic metre; and if he will make a statement.

The National Radiological Protection Board (NRPB) estimates that the average radon level in dwellings in the United Kingdom is 20 becquerels per cubic metre of air. The action level is an annual average of 200 becquerels per cubic metre.
