HC Deb 11 January 1993 vol 216 c567W
Mr. Nigel Evans

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what estimates his Department have made as to the contribution made by the British record industry to British exports.

Mr. Needham

Such estimates are not made by the Department. Exports of the finished product reported by Customs and Excise and published by the British Phonographic Industry Ltd. (BPI) were £196.3 million in 1991. Invisible earnings in the form of royalties returning from overseas were assessed in a report published by British Invisibles to be £486 million in 1988–89. Figures for all exports are shown in the Monthly Review of External Trade Statistics published by the Central Statistical Office.
