HC Deb 11 January 1993 vol 216 c621W
Mr. Morley

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what assessment he has made of whether the terms of his recent announcement concerning the use of remaining funds collected by levy by the Pig Disease Eradication Fund Ltd. to compensate producers of pigs slaughtered to eradicate Aujeszky's disease requires amendment to paragraph 2(a)and(b)and paragraph 8 of the agreement between his predecessor and the Pig Disease Eradication Fund Ltd. on 11 March 1983; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Soames

The agreement of 11 March 1983 concerns the detailed operation of the financial arrangements for fulfilling the primary purpose of the Pig Industry Levy Act 1983, which was to meet the costs of eradication of Aujeszky's disease. It does not deal with the situation envisaged in subsection 2(b), (3) and (7) of the Act, where sums collected under the levy are surplus to the primary requirements of the scheme.
