To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what assessment he has made of the effects of British Rail privatisation on InterCity services to and from towns in Gloucestershire; and if he will make a statement.

Involving the private sector in the operation of the railways through franchising will lead to an improvement in the quality of all passenger rail services, including InterCity services to and from Gloucestershire.
