HC Deb 11 January 1993 vol 216 c615W
Mr. Straw

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will list(a) the total number of residential properties owned by her Department, (b) the number of such properties which are empty and (c), (b) as a percentage of (a).

Mr. Sackville

Information is not held centrally on the properties in the ownership of the national health service. A survey in 1990 indicated that the NHS had some 93,000 units of accommodation, of which 14,000, 15 per cent., were vacant. 90 per cent. of the vacant units were rooms in hospital hostels or shared flats. A further survey is now being undertaken and the results will be made available to the Government's task force on empty residential property.
