HC Deb 11 January 1993 vol 216 c671W
Mr. Raynsford

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will publish a breakdown of the estimate of the cost of a boarder premium of £10 for each member of a homeless family living in temporary accommodation without the use of self-contained cooking facilities.

Miss Widdecombe

The information requested is not available. There is no accepted definition of "self-contained cooking facilities" and no valid estimate of the total number of families in temporary accommodation that would allow the analysis sought. The published estimate was for £10 extra per week for each boarder claim unit. The cost of that is currently estimated to be around £45 million per annum; the cost of a £10 premium to each member of a boarder family would be considerably higher.
