Mr. Burden

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will seek a derogation from the single market to permit the maintenance of the existing United Kingdom minimum standards on animal transportation from 1 January 1993.

As explained in the reply given to my hon. Friend the Member for Brighton, Kempton (Mr. Bowden) on 10 December 1992, the United Kingdom will be maintaining national rules on protection of animals in transport, in the areas where further Community rules remain to be adopted.
