Mr. Lewis

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport following his direction under section 61 of the Transport Act 1985 to Greater Manchester Buses Ltd., what assessment he has made of whether the EC acquired rights directive will apply, upon disposal, in respect of pension rights.

Pension rights are being fully discussed between my Department, the Department of the Environment and the Greater Manchester passenger transport authority.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what protection of employees' pension rights he intends to introduce on the disposal of Greater Manchester Buses Ltd. following his direction under section 61 of the Transport Act 1985.
