HC Deb 24 February 1993 vol 219 cc638-9W
Mr. Gordon Prentice

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the level of revenue support grant per head in(a) Pendle, (b) Ribble Valley, (c) the City of Westminster, (d) Wandsworth and (e) the City of London for 1992–93 and 1993–94.

Mr. Robin Squire

The information requested is as follows:

RSG per head 1992–93 RSG per head 1993–94
£ £
Pendle 325.65 49.62
Ribble Valley 292.92 13.64
City of Westminster 958.85 802.79
Wandsworth 714.59 619.18
City of London 10,771.14 11,225.31

The figures for the two years are not comparable since revenue support grant for the year 1993–94 is to be paid direct to each billing and major precepting authority, whereas in 1992–93 it was all paid into the collection fund administered by the charging authority.

Mr. Betts

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how much rate or revenue support grant per head of population has been given in total to each of the metropolitan authorities since 1980; and how much extra grant Sheffield would have received over that period if it had received(a) the grant per head of the highest recipient authority and (b) the grant per head of the average of all authorities.

Mr. Robin Squire

[holding answer 2 February 1993]The amount of rate or revenue support grant in total for each metropolitan district authority for the period 1980–81 to 1993–94 inclusive divided by the average resident population over that period is given in the table. Sheffield would have received an extra £918 million if it had received the grant per head of the highest recipient authority and an extra £286 million an average of £20.4 million for each year if it had received the average grant per head of the metropolitan districts. Sheffield's total RSG over the period was £1,535.2 million.
