HL Deb 24 February 1993 vol 543 c18WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are making efforts to attract greater support from European Community structural funds for community development and crime prevention in Northern Ireland.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Northern Ireland Office (The Earl of Arran)

As crime prevention falls outside the competence of the European Community, structural funds cannot be used to assist this area. Regarding community development, the Government are consulting at present about structural funds post 1993. Increased support for rural community development and community infrastructure is being considered.
