asked Her Majesty's Government:

With reference to the 1993 Highway Code, whether it is now unlawful to halt a vehicle on the zig-zag lines on the left-hand carriageway beyond a pedestrian crossing in order to allow a passenger to descend onto the pavement.

All vehicles (except for certain public service vehicles) are prohibited from stopping on the zig-zag lines at a pedestrian crossing to let passengers board or alight.
