HL Deb 23 February 1993 vol 543 c13WA
Lord Tebbit

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will list those provisions of the Treaty of Rome as amended by the Single European Act and the Treaty of Maastricht from which the United Kingdom is protected by virtue of the provisions of the protocol on social policy.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Chalker of Wallasey)

The protocol on social policy specifically states that acts adopted by the Council under the agreement on social policy concluded between 11 member states of the Community shall not be applicable to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The protocol has no effect on existing provisions of the Treaty of Rome as amended by the Single European Act and the Treaty on European Union, which remain in force.
