§ Mr. Llew SmithTo ask the Secretary of State for Health what consideration she has given to appointing a replacement chairman for the study on the links between the development of cancer and exposure to occupational radiation.
§ Mr. Robert JacksonI have been asked to reply.
The study in question is funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC) which receives its grant in aid from my Department.
The MRC's environmental epidemiology unit is conducting a programme of research on occupational and environmental hazards. Included in this programme is the study to follow up the findings of an association between the risk of leukaemia and lymphoma and the father's occupational exposure to radiation. The director of the unit is Professor David Barker.
