HL Deb 22 February 1993 vol 543 c3WA
Earl Baldwin of Bewdley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have studied a report in the medical journal Blood, Vol. 78, No. 8 (October 15) 1991: pp 1919–1922, concerning the immune status of HIV-infected haemophiliacs, and any later reports also involving high purity factor VIII, and if so to what extent these affect their view of the role of HIV in the causation of AIDS.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health (Baroness Cumberlege)

Her Majesty's Government have studied this report and others on the HIV infection in haemophiliacs and use of high purity factor VII.

Recent research does not materially change our understanding of the role of HIV in the causation of AIDS.
