To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to his answer of 5 February,Official Report, column 373–4, if he will list the drugs involved in each case of discharge from the services.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

The drugs involved in dismissals following court martial or summary proceedings are as follows:

a more serious offence of violence in addition to a drugs charge and are therefore slightly higher than the figures previously provided.

The ranks of those dismissed for drugs offences following court martial or summary proceeding are as follows:

Information on the rank of those administratively discharged for drug offences is not held centrally and could be provided only at disproportionate cost.

In my answer of 5 February, the figures shown for dismissal related solely to those instances where an offender's most serious offence was either importing, possessing or supplying drugs. The figures provided in today's answer also include those convicted of a more serious offence of violence in addition to a drugs charge and are therefore slightly higher than the figures previously provided.
