HC Deb 22 February 1993 vol 219 c461W
Mr. Dafis

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many applications have been made by students to each of the access funds within each university, college and college of higher education in Wales in each year since the establishment of the funds.

Sir Wyn Roberts

Since the access funds were established in 1990–91, the Universities Funding Council has been responsible for distributing access funds to the colleges of the university of Wales. The Welsh Office has distributed access funds to the other further and higher —FHE—institutions in Wales.

Institutions do not usually distinguish between the three access funds when considering applications. According to returns from FHE institutions in Wales a total of 3,160 students applied for assistance from the access funds in 1990–91 and 3,932 in 1991–92. Similar information for 1992–93 will not be available until later in the year.
