HC Deb 18 February 1993 vol 219 c304W
Mr. Winnick

To ask the right hon. Member for Berwick-upon-Tweed, representing the House of Commons Commission, what inquiries are made from the security services before appointments are made at Officer level in the House.

Mr. Beith

The security clearance procedures which apply to all staff of the House of Commons, whether Officers of the House or not, are directly analogous to those which apply to public servants. These were described in detail by the then Prime Minister on 24 July 1990 at columns159–61.

Mr. Winnick

To ask the Lord President of the Council how many Adjournment debates on aspects of the security service took place in the Parliaments beginning in 1983 and 1987.

Mr. Newton

Three: on 4 April 1985, 3 December 1986 and 23 November 1988.
