HC Deb 18 February 1993 vol 219 cc332-3W
29. Mr. Bennett

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will consider setting up an independent body in Northern Ireland to consider cases of miscarriages of justice.

Sir Patrick Mayhew

The Royal Commission on Criminal Justice is currently examining the arrangements in England and Wales for considering and investigating alleged miscarriages of justice when appeal rights have been exhausted. When the Royal Commission's recommendations are made known I shall give careful consideration to what application they may have in the particular circumstances of Northern Ireland.
