To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what was the figure for male unemployment in Newport, Gwent at the latest available date.

In January 1993 there were 8,009 male unemployed claimants in the Newport travel-to-work area, and 6,360 men unemployed in the borough of Newport.

Information on the number of beds (average daily available) in each health authority of Wales by specialty for the calendar years 1979 to 1987 and the financial years 1984–85 to 1990–91 has been published on an annual basis in "Hospital Bed Use Statistics" copies of which are in the Library of the House.
