HC Deb 17 February 1993 vol 219 c213W
Mr. Peter Bottomley

To ask the Lord President of the Council what are the average costs in salary and allowances of one hon. Member of Parliament.

Mr. Newton

At 31 March 1992 the full parliamentary salary was payable at the rate of £30,854 per annum and the ceiling figures for the office costs allowance—OCA —and additional costs allowance—ACA—were £28,986 and £10,786 respectively.

For the year 1991–92 nearly all hon. Members claimed the permitted OCA maximum and most of the 621 hon. Members who were entitled to the ACA claimed the maximum.

Given the wide variation of travel costs for individual hon. Members, it is not possible to give a meaningful average.
