HC Deb 17 February 1993 vol 219 c275W
140. Mr. Peter Shore

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many local authority dwellings were reported as vacant in the London borough of Tower Hamlets in 1992; what percentage of the local authority housing stock this figure respresents; and what is the comparable percentage in other London boroughs.

Mr. Robin Squire

Local authorities report the numbers of their own dwellings that are vacant in their annual housing investment programme (HIP1) returns. At 1 April 1992 Tower Hamlets reported 1,703 of their dwellings as empty, 4.2 per cent. of their dwelling stock. The comparable percentage for the other London boroughs is 2.3 per cent.
