§ Mr. BayleyTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the legislation or regulations requiring that information regarding the quality of drinking water is made available to the public by the water companies.
§ Mr. MacleanRegulation 30 of The Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 1989, SI No. 1147, requires that a water undertaker shall make available for inspection by the public at all reasonable hours and free of charge, at such of its offices as are normally open to the public, and record maintained by it in accordance with regulation 29. This includes for each water supply zone, its name, the supplying water treatment works, its population, particulars of any relaxation granted or undertakings given in respect of the water supply in the zone and particulars of the result of analyses of samples taken in accordance with other parts of the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations.
In addition, regulation 31 requires water undertakers to prepare for publication an annual report in accordance with the terms of that regulation. A copy must be sent to the local authority for each area in which it supplies water.
