§ Mr. Campbell-SavoursTo ask the President of the Board of Trade what plans he has to hold discussions with(a) the Luxembourg Government and (b) the European Commission concerning state aids to Messrs. Arbed, steel producers, of Luxembourg and its subsidiaries.
§ Mr. SainsburyMy right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade has no plans at present to hold discussions with the Luxembourg Government. Arbed has made applications for research grants which are permitted under the ECSC state aid code, and these have been discussed between member states and the Commission. However, if evidence exists to suggest that Arbed is benefiting from illegal subsidies, the Government will pursue the matter vigorously with the Commission.
