What are the aims and objectives of the standards policy section within the Department of Trade and Industry.

The Department of Trade and Industry's Standards Policy Unit has two main objectives, which are closely related. The first is to contribute to the effective operation of UK businesses in Europe through the negotiation and implementation of EC directives for the removal of technical barriers to trade. The other is co-ordination of government policies which contribute to the competitiveness of UK industry through financial support for the British Standards Institution and other promotion of the use of standards, certification and testing.
