§ Mr. FreemanIn his appearance in front of the Transport Select Committee on 27 January this year, the chief executive of British Rail, Mr. John Welsby, estimated that investment in the existing railway would be some £550 million in 1993–94. British Rail is currently refining its plans further in producing its budget for 1993–94.
