To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) if he will list the general practitioner fund holding practices granted in Northern Ireland in each board area;

(2) if he will give the number of applications pending for general practitioner fund holding practices in each board area.

Mr. Hanley

Fund holding will not commence in Northern Ireland until 1 April 1993. At present, 20 practices or groups of practices are preparing to become fundholders on that date and are expected to be granted fund holding status shortly. Expressions of interest in joining the second fund holding wave commencing in April 1994 were recently sought. Practices have until the end of February 1993 to register their interest. The practices who are preparing to become fund holders on 1 April 1993 are as follows:

At February 1993 there were 354 general medical practices in Northern Ireland.
