HL Deb 15 February 1993 vol 542 c61WA
Lord Norrie

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will encourage local authorities to subscribe to the expanded Arboricultural Advisory and Information Service, in view of the importance of good management of amenity trees.

Lord Strathclyde

We shall encourage all associated with amenity trees, including the local authorities, to subscribe to the enhanced services of the Arboricultural Advisory and Information Service (AAIS), which is to be launched, under the auspices of the Tree Advice Trust, next month.

The AAIS, funded since its inception in 1976 by the Department of the Environment, will be launched as a free-standing organisation. As such, it will be free to expand and to enhance the services it provides to all those whose activities have an effect upon amenity trees, through professional, practical and up-to-date information on matters affecting good management of amenity trees from planting through to old age.
