To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the value of hill livestock compensatory allowance payments for the forthcoming year; and what was the value of hill livestock compensatory allowance payments in each year since 1979.

[holding answer 9 February 1993]: The great majority of sheep and cattle which qualify for HLCAs in Scotland are located in the severely disadvantaged area of the less-favoured area. The HLCA sheep and cattle rates in the severely disadvantaged area in each year since 1979 were as set out in the following table:
