HL Deb 11 February 1993 vol 542 c53WA
The Countess of Mar

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will ensure that manufacturers of veterinary medicines and agricultural chemicals which contain organophosphorous clearly label the containers of their products to that effect

Earl Howe

The majority of licensed veterinary medicines containing organophosphorous already carry a warning to this effect and state that they should not be used by those under medical advice not to work with such compounds. In addition, many organophosphorous products also carry a warning that they contain a cholinesterase inhibitor. This is considered more helpful for those users who have been advised to avoid anticholinesterase substances, which are also contained in some non-organophosphorous products. The labelling of sheep dips is currently under review by the Veterinary Products Committee as part of its overall review of such products.

Approved agricultural pesticides containing organophosphorus cholinesterase inhibiting compounds also carry warnings to this effect.
