HC Deb 11 February 1993 vol 218 c741W
Mr. Peter Bottomley

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the value of mortgage interest relief at the standard rate(a) currently and (b) at the time in the last five years at which interest rates were at their peak level.

Mr. Dorrell

The cost of mortgage interest relief at the basic rate is about £5.2 billion for 1992–93 compared with £7.2 billion for the basic rate component of the relief in 1990–91.
