HL Deb 11 February 1993 vol 542 cc53-4WA
Lord Hutchinson of Lullington

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the Wolds prison is required to implement Prison Service policies, guidance and circular instructions on race relations.

The Minister of State, Home Office (Earl Ferrers)

HM Prison Wolds is not required to implement Prison Service guidance and circular instructions on race relations. It is required, though, to have in place policies and procedures which achieve the same effect. Wolds management publishes and displays a race relations policy statement, provides training for staff in race relations issues, has appointed a race relations officer and committee, which meet on average every two months, and collects monthly monitoring data. The contractor's performance is closely monitored by the on-site controller.

Lord Hutchinson of Lullington

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the number and proportion of the staff at the Wolds prison who are from ethnic minorities.

Earl Ferrers

Three members of staff at HM Prison Wolds, which is 1.5 per cent. of the total, are from ethnic minorities.
