HC Deb 10 February 1993 vol 218 c681W
Mr. Jopling

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will estimate(a) the number of barges on the River Danube which have broken United Nations sanctions by delivering oil or oil products to the territory of the former Yugoslavia, (b) the number of tankers in the Adriatic which have done so and (c) the number of aircraft originating in Iran which have done so.

Mr. Garel-Jones

We know of at least five barges that have breached UN Security Council resolution 757 of 1992 by delivering oil or oil products to Serbia on the Danube since the imposition of sanctions. We are aware of six tanker deliveries of oil to Montenegro via the Adriatic. No plane originating in Iran has yet been suspected of carrying oil or oil products to the former Yugoslavia. However, we know of at least one attempt by an Iranian plane to deliver arms to one of the parties to the Yugoslav conflict, in breach of UN Security Council resolution 713 of 1991.
