§ The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Trade and Industry (Baroness Denton of Wakefield)The policy of the Government is to ensure that where regulatory authorities levy fees and charges they recover only their costs, and that the regulatory authorities concerned operate in an efficient and effective manner. As part of the Government's deregulation initiative, all departments are carrying out a scrutiny of regulatory burdens on business and where these are found to be unreasonable or unjustified, action will be taken to remove them.
