26. Mr. Galloway

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will reconsider his policy on meeting officials of the Palestine Liberation Organisation; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

We maintain regular contacts with the Palestine Liberation Organisation at senior official level. Ministerial contacts were broken off because of PLO support for Saddam Hussein. Our policy remains under review.

35. Mr. Burden

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has made to the Government of Israel regarding recognition of the PLO.

It is up to the Israeli Government to decide whether to recognise the Palestine Liberation Organisation.
