Mr. Waterson

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what assessments he has made of the arrangements for preventing a casualty such as the Braer, or mitigating the effects of such a casualty, off the south coast of England.

[holding answer 14 January 1993]: The Secretary of State for Transport announced in his statement to the House of 11 January, Official Report, columns 609–10, an inquiry under the chairmanship of Lord Donaldson to advise on whether any further measures are appropriate and feasible to protect the United Kingdom coastline from pollution from merchant shipping.
