To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland, if he will make a statement on the preparedness of further education colleges to transfer from local authority control on 1 April 1993.

[holding answer 21 January 1993]: Colleges are in a good state of readiness. New management structures are in place and the necessary management systems are being set up. Those working in colleges are to be congratulated on the good progress which has been made.
