§ Mr. Simon HughesTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what changes he is planning to the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 with respect to minimising light pollution; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. BaldryLight pollution is a rather vague term for the indiscriminate use of lighting. The Government's general approach is to encourage economy in the use of light energy and to discourage the nuisance that can be caused to neighbours by over intensive lighting systems.
This issue is one of several included in a recent consultation paper "Temporary uses of Land, External 545W Lighting and Miscellaneous Amendments to the Town and Country Planning General Development Order 1988", responses to which are currently being considered.
