§ Mr. EggarThe environmental technology innovation scheme was launched by DTI and DoE in October 1990 for a three-year period.
Forecast expenditure on DTI"s element of the scheme in the current financial year is £1.59 million. The budget allocation for the next financial year has not yet been finalised.

§ Mr. John EvansTo ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will list the companies and organisations which have applied for financial assistance from the environmental technology innovation scheme; how many applications were granted; what was the grant paid for each scheme; how many applications were rejected; and what was the reason for refusal of assistance, in each case.
§ Mr. EggarThe environmental technology innovation scheme has attracted 503 initial first stage applications of which 101 have been rejected. To list the companies which have applied and the reasons for rejecting individual applicants would incur disproportionate costs and disclose information which is commercially confidential. However, all applications are considered carefully by my Department's technical consultants and appraised according to their ability to meet the scheme criteria.
One hundred and nineteen applicants have been invited by my Department to submit more detailed second stage proposals, and 141 by the Department of the Environment. Of those who have submitted proposals, the following have been awarded grant:
