§ Mr. IngramTo ask the President of the Board of Trade, pursuant to his answer of 1 February,Official Report, col. 58 relating to state aid to the electricity supply industry, if he will give details of the state aid to the energy sector within the United Kingdom as notified to the European Commission.
§ Mr. Eggar[holding answer 4 February 1993]: The energy sector in Northern Ireland is the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, and the electricity sector in Scotland is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland. Within my right hon. Friend"s responsibilities, a number of arrangements have been notified to the Commission under the provisions of EC competition law since 1973. Arrangements notified in the course of the electricity privatisation exercise specifically include the state aid inherent in the fossil fuel levy.
