To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will introduce a charter setting the maximum period for Government Departments to reply to letters from(a) hon. Members and (b) constituents.

Each Department has set its own target for replying to hon. Members' correspondence. A table showing performance against targets for 1991 was published on 3 August 1992, Official Report, column 711; a similar table showing ministerial correspondence in 1992 will be published shortly.
