Mr. Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the departmental responsibilities in which Mr. Muir Russell has been involved over the past five years.

Mr. Lang

Mr. Russell's departmental responsibilities over the last five years have been:

  • Present position—Under Secretary Housing, The Scottish Office Environment Department.
  • April 1990-August 1992—Under Secretary, Secretariat, Cabinet Office.
  • February 1989-April 1990—Assistant Secretary, The Scottish Office Finance Division I (which deals in particular with the Public Expenditure Survey and The Scottish Office Administration Vote).
  • February 1986-February 1989—Assistant Secretary, The Scottish Office Local Government Finance Division.

Mr. Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how often Mr. Muir Russell of his Department has met representatives of Stagecoach plc in connection with his official duties in each of the past five years.

Mr. Lang

Before the first discussion of his possible appointment as a non-executive director, which was held on 1 December 1992, Mr. Russell had no meetings with representatives of Stagecoach Holdings plc.
