HC Deb 08 February 1993 vol 218 c491W
Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what sum he proposes to spend on information and publicity in the financial year 1993–94.

Mr. David Hunt

The Welsh Office plans to spend about £2.5 million on publicity in 1993–94. The main areas to which resources will be committed are:

  • Industry, with continued campaigns in support of Enterprise Wales and export promotion;
  • Roads, including road safety publicity;
  • Health, including aids and alcohol and drugs misuse activity;
  • Education, including teacher recruitment and citizens charter material;
  • Agriculture, including the production of Welsh-language publications.

Executive non-departmental public bodies sponsored by the Welsh Office and the Department's executive agency CADW have separate provision for publicity expenditure. In previous years, expenditure by CADW has been treated as part of the Welsh Office total.

Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list the principal elements of the increase the estimate for the present year's publicity expenditure given in his answer to the hon. Member for Holborn and St. Pancras (Mr. Dobson) on 2 June 1992,Official Report, column 435, and the figure given in his answer to the hon. Member for Cardiff, West of 29 January 1993, Official Report, column 886.

Mr. David Hunt

The figures given for my Department's estimated publicity expenditure for 1992–93 are the best estimate of the cost of the programme at that time. The difference is accounted for by adjustments and changes in costs across the programme in general and not by particular additions.
