HC Deb 08 February 1993 vol 218 c498W
Mr. Fraser

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many(a) tenants of Lambeth council and (b) tenants of other landlords were upon average in receipt of housing benefit for the most recent year for which figures are available.

Mr. Burt

The average number of local authority tenants in receipt of housing benefit in 1992 in the London borough of Lambeth was 22,800. The average number of tenants for other landlords, in the same year, was 12,900.

Notes:

  • The information covers benefit units, and not individuals; couples are counted as one unit.
  • The source of the data is the Housing Benefit Management Information System quarterly caseload returns for February, May, August and November 1992.
  • All figures are rounded to the nearest one hundred.

Mr. Fraser

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how much refund of housing benefit was paid to Lambeth council in each of the 12 months of 1992.

Mr. Burt

Monthly payments on account of housing benefit subsidy made to Lambeth council in 1992 are shown in the following table:

Month £
December 79,179
Total 110,361

Note:

The table shows administration subsidy payments on account made by DSS.

Administration subsidy for housing benefit is paid in two parts: 50 per cent. direct grant from DSS and 50 per cent. through the revenue support grant.
